Hifiman Sundara Open Magnetostat Headphones
The name “Sundara” comes from Sanskrit and means “beauty” – a term that best describes the sound quality of the Sundara. The Sundara’s diaphragm is ultra-thin, which enables a wide frequency range and a fast response time. The level of detail and transparency of the Sundara in the midrange is excellent and the velvety high tones are a pleasure. The bass convinces with excellent impulse fidelity and a nice depth.
With a sound pressure level of 94 dB and an impedance of 37 ohms, the Sundara can be easily combined with a smartphone or portable music player. The Sundara was therefore equipped with a stable 3.5 mm plug. A 3.5 to 6.3 mm adapter is included in the scope of delivery for use on a stationary system. Especially in combination with a headphone amplifier, the Sundara unfolds an intoxicating musicality with a three-dimensional spatial representation even in complex musical passages.
The headband, earcups and brackets are constructed from lightweight aluminum. So the weight of the Sundara could be limited to 372 grams. The headband and the outer part of the ear pads are made of leather. The part of the ear pads facing the ear is made of skin-friendly polyester and, thanks to the moderate contact pressure, lies very comfortably on the ear even when worn for a long time.
