REGA APHELION 2 MC
The APHELION 2 belongs to the 4th generation of unique MC scanning systems from Rega. With the new APHELION 2, the highly developed technology of the Apheta-3 is taken to a new level.
The Rega developers have rethought and optimized all of the technical features. The APHELION 2 was created with an extraordinarily stiff boron needle carrier that carries a diamond with Rega’s highly developed Fine Line cut. The drive consists of an extremely strong neodymium magnet and a coil made of extremely thin fine wire that is carefully wound by hand onto a tiny cross support.
The weight reduction associated with this arrangement allows improved scanning and higher resolution of the smallest details hidden in the record groove. The APHELION 2 is built into a high-precision, one-piece, black anodized aluminum support. A yellow ultra-light cover serves as protection against damage.
This pickup is the ideal complement to the award-winning Rega Planar 10 record player and is part of the standard equipment of the top model Rega Naiad.
Special features
Like all Rega pickups, the APHELION 2 is made by hand. It currently represents the pinnacle in the design and precision engineering development of high-quality scanners. This groundbreaking new MC system simply gets more music out of every record than was previously possible.
The rigid boron needle carrier and the diamond with the highly scannable fine line cut contribute significantly to this result. Rega’s design is unique in the realization of an undamped generator without tension wire with extremely low moving mass and rhombic counter bearing for the needle carrier.
The arrangement is completed by a neodymium magnet specially developed for Rega. Such a system construction requires compliance with extremely tight tolerances when manufacturing the aluminum carrier. This difficult manufacturing process brings together Rega’s decades of experience as a pickup manufacturer. The skill lies in maintaining not only dimensions, but also the alignment of all elements for assembly without any deviations.
