All In – Analog Out…
For nearly a decade, the Vincent CD-S6 MK was the flagship model of the Vincent CD series. Both technically and optically, this device could hardly hold a candle to any competing model in this price range.
To take into account the technical development, the time has now come to present a successor: With the CD-S7 DAC the virtues of the CD-S6 MK are taken over and supplemented by the possibility to use the device additionally as a DAC. Digital signals can now be fed in via optical, coaxial, or USB inputs to benefit from the superior analog signal processing of the CD-S7 DAC. Thanks to the PCM1796 D/A converter, your digital signal sources now come close to the sound quality of a CD.
The analog signal is output fully balanced and is further treated as such by the circuitry of the CD-S7 DAC, with each of the 4 signal lines having its own power filter and amplifier. As a result, the sound is better and the dynamic range is increased.
To read the digital signals of a CD the Sanyou chip DA11 is used. The software for this was developed in-house and stands for a safe readout of all CDs. But this effort is of relatively little use if the signal is not processed well in the following. We use Russian 6922 tubes for this, which benefits the sound enormously. The transparency and three-dimensionality become clear after the first notes. The power supply has also been revised. A toroidal transformer was installed to provide the power. In the power supply, a 6Z4 and a 12AX7 tube provide the required voltages. Quality components from well-known manufacturers were used in the important places, but this goes without saying with so much effort.
