Wharfedale DENTON 1S
A compact classic, reinterpreted
The DENTON series has been among the brand’s most renowned loudspeakers for decades. Even the early models were known for their compact design, surprisingly mature sound, and high everyday usability. The new DENTON 1S builds on this legacy – not as a mere reissue, but as a contemporary reinterpretation of a distinctive Wharfedale concept.
Inspired by the spirit of the DENTON 1 from the 1970s, it combines heritage character with modern technology and a design consistently focused on spaciousness and homogeneity.
Coaxial precision from a single acoustic center
At the heart of the DENTON 1S is a newly developed coaxial driver design. The 25 mm fabric tweeter sits concentrically inside the 165 mm mid-bass driver, thus forming a common acoustic center.
This principle ensures a particularly closed sound dispersion pattern and exceptionally homogeneous reproduction. Voices and instruments are precisely rendered in the soundstage, while the spatial imaging remains stable even outside the ideal listening position.
Tailored to musical unity
The development of the DENTON 1S was led by Peter Comeau, Wharfedale’s Director of Acoustic Design. Particular attention was paid to the tuning of the coaxial system and the integration of the crossover.
The goal was a loudspeaker that doesn’t sound like individual drivers, but rather reproduces music as a cohesive whole. Like many Wharfedale loudspeakers, the DENTON 1S doesn’t pursue an artificial sound signature, but rather a natural, balanced, and enjoyable listening experience.
Design with control
In terms of design, the DENTON 1S also follows the typical Wharfedale approach: resonance control, material quality and cabinet stability are the main focus.
The multi-layered cabinet construction with internal bracing reduces unwanted resonances and creates the basis for clean, controlled sound reproduction. This ensures the speaker remains precise and balanced even with dynamic music.
